Alright, here's the scoop: We'll be cruising out from Orange Beach into some prime inshore fishing grounds. Captain Colby knows these waters like the back of his hand, so you're in for a treat. We've got all the gear you need - rods, reels, bait, the works. No need to lug anything but your excitement. As we hit different spots, you'll get the chance to try your hand at various techniques. Maybe we'll be bottom fishing for Snapper one minute, then switching gears to troll for Mackerel the next. The beauty of inshore fishing is the variety, and trust me, there's never a dull moment when those lines are in the water.
Now, let's talk shop for a sec. Inshore fishing is all about versatility. We might start off using live bait to entice those Red Snapper - nothing beats a juicy pinfish or cigar minnow for getting their attention. For the Mackerel, we'll likely switch to trolling with spoons or duster rigs. It's fast-paced and a blast when those speedsters hit. If we're targeting Redfish or Trout, we might slow things down with some light tackle and soft plastics. Don't worry if you're new to this - Captain Colby's got you covered with all the tips and tricks. He'll show you how to work the bait, set the hook, and reel 'em in like a pro. By the end of the trip, you'll be talking fishing lingo with the best of 'em!
"Wish I could give more than 5 stars! Colby was phenomenal. Even though the morning started slow, he made sure that we got on some great fishing before the day ended for us. He is extremely knowledgeable about local fishing. He was as invested in us catching fish and having a good time as we were. Great, great experience. We will definitely find him on the next trip too!" - Faith
"Captain Colby and killin time fishing charters was such a great time!! My family (3 adults, 4 and 6 yr olds) had a great time and caught a ton of fish! Cap Colby was very knowledgeable with spots/fish/tips during trip and very attentive. As soon as a fish was on he was ready to help and as soon as a fish ate one of our hooks he was ready to get a new hook back on with little to no waiting! He even cleaned our fish and bagged them up for us. The mangrove snapper was SO good! We are excited to go again next year!" - Mariah
Red Snapper: These beauties are the crown jewels of the Gulf. With their bright red scales and fierce fight, they're a favorite among anglers. Red Snapper typically hang out near reefs and wrecks, and boy, do they put up a battle when hooked! They're most active in the warmer months, making our afternoon trips prime time for snapper action. And let's not forget - they're delicious on the dinner plate too!
Sheepshead: Don't let their goofy grin fool you - these striped battlers are tough cookies. Sheepshead love structure, so we'll be targeting them around jetties and pilings. They've got a knack for stealing bait, so a quick hookset is key. Winter and early spring are peak seasons for sheepshead, but we can find them year-round. Their white, flaky meat is a local delicacy.
King Mackerel: Hold onto your hats when a King Mackerel hits! These speedsters can make your reel scream like nobody's business. We'll be trolling for these bad boys, and when they strike, it's pure adrenaline. Kings are most abundant in the fall, but we see good numbers from spring through summer too. They're toothy critters, so we'll be using wire leaders to make sure they don't bite through the line.
Sea Trout: Also known as Speckled Trout, these guys are inshore all-stars. They're not the biggest fish in the sea, but what they lack in size, they make up for in numbers and taste. We'll be targeting them in grassy flats and around oyster beds. Sea Trout are year-round residents, but the fishing really heats up in the fall. Light tackle enthusiasts, this is your moment to shine!
Redfish: Ah, the mighty Red Drum - a true symbol of inshore fishing in these parts. These copper-colored bruisers are known for their distinctive spot near the tail and their bull-dog fighting style. We'll find them cruising the shallows, often with their backs out of the water (we call that "tailing"). Fall is prime time for big bull reds, but we catch 'em all year long. Get ready for some serious pull when one of these guys takes the bait!
Alright, folks, there you have it - a taste of what's waiting for you on the waters of Orange Beach. With Captain Colby at the helm, you're in for a top-notch fishing experience that'll have you grinning from ear to ear. King Mackerel, or Kingfish, are the speed demons of the Gulf. These sleek predators can hit 30 pounds, with some monsters pushing 90. You'll find them in open water, usually 40-150 feet deep, chasing bait schools. Late spring through fall is prime time when water temps are between 68-84°F. Anglers love Kingfish for their blistering runs and acrobatic jumps - they'll really test your gear. To target them, try trolling with live bait like Blue Runners or Menhaden. A local trick is to use a stinger rig with two hooks to improve your hookup ratio. These fish have razor-sharp teeth, so wire leaders are a must. Just be aware that larger Kings can have high mercury levels, so it's best to release the big ones and keep the smaller ones for the table.

Red Snapper are a prized catch in the Gulf, known for their tasty white meat and strong fighting ability. These fish typically range from 5-20 pounds but can grow up to 35 pounds or more. You'll find them hanging around reefs, wrecks, and other structure in waters 30-600 feet deep. Spring and fall are prime seasons, when water temps are in the 50-70°F range. Anglers love targeting Red Snapper for their delicious flavor and the challenge of getting them off the bottom. To land a big one, try using heavy tackle with cigar minnows or squid as bait. A local trick is to use a double-hook rig - it gives you a better chance of hooking up when the fish are biting cautiously. Just remember, these fish have sharp teeth, so handle with care!

Redfish, or Red Drum, are a favorite target in our shallow waters. These bronze-colored bruisers, known for the black spot near their tail, typically range from 3-15 pounds inshore, with bigger ones offshore. You'll find them in super shallow water, often tailing in 1-4 feet deep flats, especially around oyster beds and grass lines. Fall is prime time when they school up to spawn. Anglers love Redfish for their powerful runs and excellent table fare. To catch them, try sight-fishing with light tackle and soft plastics or live bait like shrimp. A local trick: look for their tails sticking up out of the water on calm mornings - it's a dead giveaway. Just remember, these fish can live up to 40 years, so practice catch and release with the big ones to keep the population healthy.

Sea Trout, also known as Speckled Trout, are a staple of inshore fishing here. These silvery, spotted fish typically run 14-24 inches and love to hang around grass flats and shallow waters. They're most active at night or on cloudy days, especially in cooler months. Anglers prize Sea Trout for their aggressive strikes and delicate flavor. To catch them, try working soft plastics or topwater lures over grass beds in 2-6 feet of water. A local tip: when you find one trout, there's usually more nearby - they often school up. These fish have soft mouths, so use a light touch when setting the hook. Sea Trout are great eating, but be careful not to overcook them, or they'll get mushy. Overall, they're a fun, accessible target for both novice and experienced anglers.

Sheepshead are a unique catch, easily recognized by their black and white stripes and human-like teeth. These fish typically weigh 1-8 pounds and hang around structures like docks, bridges, and reefs. They're masters at stealing bait, so you've got to be quick on the hook-set. Spring is prime time for Sheepshead fishing, as they gather in large spawning groups. Anglers love targeting them for their challenging bite and excellent table fare. To up your chances, use small hooks with natural baits like fiddler crabs or oysters. A local tip: scrape some barnacles off the pilings to chum the water and attract more fish. Just be careful of their sharp dorsal spines when handling them. Sheepshead might not be the biggest fish in the sea, but they sure make for a fun and tasty catch.
