"Wish I could give more than 5 stars! Colby was phenomenal. Even though the morning started slow, he made sure that we got on some great fishing before the day ended for us. He is extremely knowledgeable about local fishing. He was as invested in us catching fish and having a good time as we were. Great, great experience. We will definitely find him on the next trip too!" - Faith
"Captain Colby and killin time fishing charters was such a great time!! My family (3 adults, 4 and 6 yr olds) had a great time and caught a ton of fish! Cap Colby was very knowledgeable with spots/fish/tips during trip and very attentive. As soon as a fish was on he was ready to help and as soon as a fish ate one of our hooks he was ready to get a new hook back on with little to no waiting! He even cleaned our fish and bagged them up for us. The mangrove snapper was SO good! We are excited to go again next year!" - Mariah
Red Snapper: These crimson beauties are the crown jewels of the Gulf. Known for their firm, white flesh and sweet flavor, red snapper put up a good fight and make for some fantastic table fare. They typically hang out near reefs and structures, so when we drop lines for these guys, be ready for some arm-wrestling action. The best time to target them is during the federally regulated season, usually in the summer months. Anglers love the challenge of pulling these hard-fighters up from the depths.
Sheepshead: Don't let their goofy grin fool you - sheepshead are crafty customers. These striped bandits are masters at stealing bait, thanks to their human-like teeth. We find them around pilings, jetties, and oyster beds, where they munch on crustaceans. Light tackle and a steady hand are key to hooking these guys. The colder months are prime time for sheepshead, and folks love catching them for their sweet, delicate meat that's perfect for a fish fry.
King Mackerel: Also known as kingfish, these speedsters are the sprinters of the sea. We often troll for them with live bait or big spoons. Kings are known for their blistering runs and aerial acrobatics when hooked. Spring and fall are the best seasons to target these silver missiles. Anglers get a kick out of the sheer power and speed of king mackerel - it's like hooking a torpedo!
Sea Trout: Speckled trout are inshore favorites, known for their spotted backs and yellow mouths. We catch these guys year-round, but they're especially active in the cooler months. Light tackle and artificial lures like soft plastics or topwater plugs are the ticket. What makes sea trout so popular is their willingness to bite and the fun, visual strikes they provide, especially when fishing topwater.
Redfish: The bulldogs of the flats, redfish (or red drum) are pound-for-pound some of the hardest fighting fish in the inshore waters. We target these copper-colored bruisers in the shallows, often sight-fishing for them as they tail in the grass. Fall is prime time when the big bull reds show up, but we catch them year-round. Anglers love redfish for their powerful runs and the heart-pounding excitement of watching them crush a lure in skinny water.

Spotted Seatrout, or Speckled Trout, are a staple in Orange Beach. These silvery fish with distinctive spots usually run 1-5 pounds, though gator trout over 5 pounds aren't uncommon. You'll find them in grass flats, around oyster bars, and in deeper channels, typically in 3-15 feet of water. Spring and fall are peak seasons, but you can catch specks year-round. They're known for their soft mouths and head-shaking jumps. Trout are also fantastic eating fish, with delicate, flaky white meat that's hard to beat. For artificial lures, soft plastics under a popping cork work great. Live shrimp are always a good bet too. A local tip: fish the tide changes, especially the first of the incoming tide. That's when specks really turn on. Whether you're after numbers or that trophy gator trout, these fish offer consistent action and tasty fillets. They're perfect for anglers of all skill levels, making them a favorite on our charters.
Redfish, also called Red Drum, are a prized catch in Orange Beach. These copper-colored beauties can grow up to 45 inches and 50 pounds, though most are in the 20-30 inch range. Look for them in shallow water, often just 1-4 feet deep, around oyster reefs, grass flats, and jetties. They love muddy bottoms and structure. Fall is prime time for reds, but you can catch 'em year-round. They put up a great fight and make excellent table fare with their mild, sweet flavor. Sight fishing for tailing reds in the shallows is a blast - watch for their backs breaking the surface. To land a big one, try live bait like shrimp or mullet. For artificials, topwater lures early morning can produce explosive strikes. A local trick is to use gold spoons - reds can't resist that flash. Just remember to set the hook hard, as they've got tough mouths. Whether you're after a bull red or a slot-sized dinner, these fish make for an awesome day on the water.
Red Snapper are the crown jewels of Gulf bottom fishing. These bright red beauties typically run 5-15 pounds, but can grow over 30 pounds. You'll find them around reefs, wrecks, and other structure in 60-300 feet of water. Snapper season is short but sweet, usually in June and July. They're known for their strong initial run to the bottom when hooked. Red snapper are also prized for their firm, white, sweet-tasting fillets - some of the best eating fish in the Gulf. To target big snapper, we often use heavy tackle and drop large live baits like pinfish or cigar minnows to the bottom. A local tip: when you hook one, reel fast and steady to get it away from the structure before it can break you off. Whether you're after a limit of eating-size snapper or that trophy bull red, these fish are a blast to catch. Just be ready for sore arms - reeling them up from the deep is a workout!
Sheepshead, with their distinctive black stripes and human-like teeth, are a unique catch in Orange Beach. These fish typically weigh 1-8 pounds, but can reach up to 20 pounds. You'll find them around structures like pilings, jetties, and reefs, usually in 5-15 feet of water. Winter and early spring are prime sheepshead seasons, as they move inshore to spawn. They're notorious bait stealers and put up a surprisingly strong fight for their size. Plus, they're excellent eating with sweet, white meat similar to their cousin, the black drum. To catch sheepshead, use small hooks and bait like fiddler crabs or oysters. A local trick is to scrape barnacles off pilings to chum them up. Watch your rod tip closely - their bites are so subtle, you'll often feel the bite before you see it. Sheepshead fishing requires patience and finesse, but the reward is a delicious dinner and a unique fishing experience. They're a favorite among locals who know how good they are on the table.
King Mackerel, or Kingfish, are speed demons of the Gulf. These sleek, silvery fish typically run 15-30 pounds, but can top 90 pounds. You'll find them anywhere from 40 to 150 feet deep, often around structures like oil rigs. Spring and fall are prime seasons as kings migrate through our waters. They're known for blistering runs and acrobatic jumps when hooked - hang on tight! Kingfish make for great eating too, with firm, flavorful meat that's excellent grilled or smoked. To target kings, we often troll with live bait like blue runners or menhaden. A local trick is to use a stinger rig - these toothy fish are notorious for short strikes. Wire leaders are a must. When the bite is on, it's non-stop action that'll test your arms and your gear. Kings are a blast whether you're a seasoned angler or first-timer. Just be ready for a fight when that reel starts screaming!
