"Wish I could give more than 5 stars! Colby was phenomenal. Even though the morning started slow, he made sure that we got on some great fishing before the day ended for us. He is extremely knowledgeable about local fishing. He was as invested in us catching fish and having a good time as we were. Great, great experience. We will definitely find him on the next trip too!" - Faith
"Captain Colby and killin time fishing charters was such a great time!! My family (3 adults, 4 and 6 yr olds) had a great time and caught a ton of fish! Cap Colby was very knowledgeable with spots/fish/tips during trip and very attentive. As soon as a fish was on he was ready to help and as soon as a fish ate one of our hooks he was ready to get a new hook back on with little to no waiting! He even cleaned our fish and bagged them up for us. The mangrove snapper was SO good! We are excited to go again next year!" - Mariah
Red Snapper: These crimson beauties are the crown jewels of the Gulf. Known for their firm, white flesh and sweet flavor, Red Snapper put up a great fight and make for excellent table fare. They typically hang around reefs and structures, and can grow to impressive sizes. The best time to target them is during the open season, which usually runs from June to August. Anglers love the challenge of pulling these hard-fighting fish up from the depths.
Sheepshead: Don't let their striped, sheep-like teeth fool you - these fish are no pushovers. Sheepshead are notorious bait stealers and require a quick hookset to land. They're typically found around pilings, jetties, and other structures where they feed on crustaceans. Winter and early spring are prime times for Sheepshead fishing. Anglers enjoy the challenge of outsmarting these crafty fish, and their sweet, white meat is a delicacy.
King Mackerel: Also known as Kingfish, these speedsters are the sprinters of the sea. Kings are known for their blistering runs and acrobatic jumps when hooked. They typically show up in Orange Beach waters from spring through fall, with peak season in the summer months. Trolling for Kings is an exciting way to cover water and find the bite. Their firm, oily flesh is excellent for smoking or grilling.
Sea Trout: Speckled Trout, as they're often called, are a staple of inshore fishing in Orange Beach. These spotted predators are found in grass flats, around oyster bars, and near dropoffs. They're active year-round but really turn on in the spring and fall. Anglers love targeting Sea Trout for their aggressive strikes and their excellent taste on the dinner plate.
Redfish: With their copper color and distinctive spot near the tail, Redfish are one of the most sought-after inshore species. They're known for their powerful runs and their ability to test your drag. Redfish can be caught year-round in Orange Beach, but fall is particularly good when they school up. Whether you're sight-casting to tailing Reds in the shallows or fishing deeper holes, hooking into one of these bulldogs is always a thrill.

King Mackerel, or "Kings," are speed demons of the Gulf, known for blistering runs that'll smoke your reel. These sleek predators average 10-20 pounds but can top 50. Look for them in 30-150 foot depths, often near bait schools or structure. Kings migrate seasonally, with our best action from spring through fall. Trolling is the go-to method, using live bait like blue runners or dead cigar minnows. These fish hit hard and fast, so be ready for the strike. Wire leaders are a must to prevent bite-offs from their razor-sharp teeth. Kings are popular for their fight and their firm, flavorful meat that's great for smoking or grilling. Local tip: when you see birds diving, there's a good chance Kings are pushing bait to the surface. Run your baits through that area for some fast action.

Red Snapper are a prized catch in our Gulf waters, typically ranging from 5-20 pounds. You'll find them hanging around reefs, wrecks, and other structure in depths of 30-600 feet. These fish put up a good fight and make for excellent eating with their mild, slightly sweet flavor. Spring and fall are prime seasons, but we can target them year-round. To land a big one, try using live bait like cigar minnows or pinfish. Drop your line straight down and wait for that telltale thump. When you feel it, set the hook hard and start reeling - these guys will try to dive back to their structure. Keep your rod tip up and be ready for some serious pulling. Red Snapper have sharp teeth, so wire leaders are a must. Their firm white fillets are popular in restaurants, but nothing beats catching and cooking your own fresh catch out here.

Redfish, or Red Drum, are one of our most popular inshore species. They're easily identified by their copper color and black spot near the tail. Most reds we catch are in the 3-10 pound range, but bull reds over 20 pounds aren't uncommon. You'll find them in shallow flats, around oyster bars, and near marsh edges, often in water less than 3 feet deep. Redfish put up a great fight, with powerful runs that'll test your drag. They're active year-round but really shine in fall when they school up. Sight-fishing for tailing reds in the shallows is a blast. Use live bait like mullet or crabs, or try artificial lures like gold spoons or soft plastics. When you hook one, keep your rod tip up to prevent them from diving into structure. Local tip: look for reds pushing water in super shallow areas, especially on calm days.

Sea Trout, also called Speckled Trout, are a staple of our inshore fishing. Most run 1-3 pounds, but gator trout over 5 pounds aren't uncommon. You'll find them in grass flats, around oyster bars, and near creek mouths, typically in 2-6 feet of water. These fish are active year-round but really turn on in spring and fall. Trout are fun to catch on light tackle and make for great eating with their mild, flaky meat. Live shrimp under a popping cork is a classic setup, but artificials like soft plastics and topwater lures work well too. When the bite is on, you can catch them one after another. For best results, fish the moving tides, especially early morning or late evening. Pro tip: when you find a school, work the area thoroughly - trout often hang together in good numbers.

Sheepshead are the convicts of our inshore waters, with their distinctive black and white stripes. Most run 2-5 pounds, but trophy fish can hit 10-15 pounds. You'll find them around barnacle-covered structures like pilings, jetties, and reefs. These crafty fish are notorious bait stealers, using their human-like teeth to nibble shellfish off rocks. Spring is prime time when they school up to spawn. Anglers love the challenge of hooking these wily fish, and their sweet, white meat is delicious. To catch sheepshead, use small hooks with fiddler crabs or oysters. Position your bait right against the structure and wait for that subtle bite. When you feel it, set the hook fast - these guys are masters at stripping bait. A light spinning setup with 10-15 lb test works well. Pro tip: scrape some barnacles off the pilings to chum them up and get them feeding.
